The Court of Appeals Chorale was reorganized last June 2006 under the
baton of its new musical director, Mr. Arnel de Pano, a multi-awarded
composer, arranger, Gospel singer and advocate of original Pilipino
music. De Pano brings to the Court a fresh but serious approach to
choral teaching, armed with his wide experience in pop and gospel
music and significant background in songwriting, production, choral
conducting and music directing, among others.
Since its reorganization, De Pano, the son of former Presiding Justice
Nathanael P. De Pano, Jr., has led the CA Chorale to perform in
various occasions and official functions of the Court, namely,
- Mass and Retirement ceremonies of Justice Vicente Yap
- Retirement program of Atty. Tessie Gatmaitan
- Mass and Retirement ceremonies of Justice Santiago Ranada, Jr.
- Christmas Program (overall)
- Christmas Program of the Ladies’ Circle
- Necrological Program for Justice Eliezer Delos Santos
- Mass and Necrological Program for Justice Roberto A. Barrios
- Third Metrobank Foundation Professorial Chair Lecture
One of the significant accomplishments of the CA Chorale is its
production of a CD recording of the National Anthem, Court of Appeals
Hymn and Judiciary Hymn which were treated to new arrangements and
original band accompaniments by De Pano. The newly recorded anthem
and hymns are constantly played during flag-raising ceremonies and
other official functions.
Last February 1, 2007, on the occasion of the Court’s 71st
Anniversary, the CA Chorale staged a mini-concert of six (6) songs
during the luncheon tendered in honor of the Justices and their
spouses at the CA Auditorium. A repeat of three songs, namely,
“Corner of the Sky,” “Daybreak” and “You
Raise Me Up,” was performed at the afternoon program for the
De Pano aims to further hone the CA Chorale in terms of actual
performance and chorale sound. For these, he plans to schedule formal
voice coaching sessions for the members. Noted voice teachers with
proven track record of producing quality singers may be invited.
The CA Chorale meets and rehearses regularly during Tuesdays-Thursdays at
11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the CA Auditorium.
